I believe that we can all agree that we are living in a season that we have never experience before. It has been very interesting seeing the responses from different people around the world. Sometimes I can feel the fear and anxiety around me when I’m out and about. I have never seen so many people from around the globe taking about the exact same thing. Perhaps we can now say that we are a world in unity, we are all working together in some way to defend ourselves against the Coronavirus. Yes, that has been the hot topic for weeks now and will be for weeks to come. In twenty years’ time we will tell the next generation about the time when a virus called Corona took the world by storm and shut down nations. However, how will we be telling the story? Will we talk about those who lost their lives? Will we talk about the time when toilet paper became the new white gold, how people fought over it in stores, how stores ran out of hand sanitizer and baby wipes or how we all learned that we’ve been washing our hands the wrong way all our lives? Where will God be in your story or let me ask and what is God doing right now? The Lord started revealing to me His Character in these trying times through Jeremiah chapter 29. So allow me to share with you some thoughts I have learned from Jeremiah 29.
Life goes on
In verse 5 – 6, God clearly instruct the nation of Israel to keep planting, get married and build houses. They are now in exile, but He does not want them to stop anything from their daily lives. In fact, he is telling them to increase and not diminish. In other words, He is telling them that when they come out of this difficult time, they will have more than what they had before. God did not want their challenges to affect what they are supposed to be doing. He says, hey life goes on keep living and you will be more prosperous when this is all over. I believe that we can see the Kingdom advance like no other time before and that this is not a time for us to just lay down and wait for things to blow over. The Lord has not told us to stop! I want to encourage you today to ask the Lord how He wants to use you in this situation and remember this is only a season. Of course I’m notsuggesting that we break the lockdown protocols and put lives in danger. Just ask the Father what creative part you should play to bring hope, care and revival during this time.
Keep the Peace
The Lord tells us to seek His peace in verse 7. Peace comes when we focus on God instead of the situation. Paul wrote in Philippians 4:7 that it is the peace of the Father that will surpass all understanding. In John 14:27 Jesus tells us not to be troubled or afraid and then He says that He will leave with us His peace. It seems like the world is finding peace in having enough toilet paper, but we have access to a peace that is not in this world and cannot be found in the things of this world. So I want to encourage you to fix your eyes on Jesus during this time. Fill your mind with the Word of God rather than the things of this world. Then He also instructed the nation of Israel to pray. So what do we need to do? Pray and pray more! Let’s pray for our families, friends, neighbours, towns, nations, medical staff, government leaders, healing, let’s pray for the love of God to fill the nations.
Stick to His Plan
Now verse 11 is by far the most quoted and prophesied verse by believers and boy do we need to believe it now more than ever. The plans He had from the beginning, the calling He gave you, the prophesies and words you received have not changed. Virus or no virus, He is still the same God and will remain faithful to His children. It is important that we remain faithful in our relationship with our Father no matter what happens. He is faithful and longs to show His faithfulness to us, all we have to do is to allow Him to do it. The Bible teaches us that though we are faithless, He remains faithful. Just remember that He is thinking about you daily and He will continue to walk with you faithfully through every storm. What a great time for us to pray and worship with our families. Let’s worship the creator of the universe no matter what happens. He is worthy and faithful!
Time to Call
Remember that our Heavenly Farther has been reaching out to us since the beginning of time. He showed that to us 2000 years ago with the greatest act of love by sending His Son to die for us all. Now in verse 12 -14, He is telling us to reach out to Him. He is here in our midst through everything, but sometimes we allow circumstances to separate us. The good news is that our Father is so faithful that He ensures Israel that if they call on Him then He will listen. Not only will He listen, but He will allow them to find Him and bring them back. Let us call on the name of the Lord. The Bible teaches us that if we call on His name that we will be saved. It is also time to search for God’s heart for the nations in during this time. It is time to draw nearer to Him and deepened our relationship with the Father. It is time to come back to our first love. So use this time to spend more time soaking up the presence of the Father.
I can only imagine how scary and discouraging it would have been for Israel to be in exile. Going through hardship and not knowing what the future holds. Then God shows up and let them know, that they are still His people and he still has a plan of hope and peace for them. He has not changed His mind concerning them. So, I want to ensure you that we can be very certain about God’s plans and thoughts for us in this time of so much uncertainty. As believers we know that our father is a good Father and we can have hope for the future. We died with Him; we were raised to life with Him and are now seated with Him in heavenly places. He is the beginning He is the end; He has one the victory 2000 years ago. With that victory He wrote our stories. For this is what He says today, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
